"St. Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) in Ecstasy" is the central marble group of a sculpture complex designed and completed by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini (1598 -1680) for the Cornaro Chapel of Santa Maria della Vittoria in Rome. The sculpture expresses a moment of time where God has intruded into one woman's soul, if not pierced her literal body.
