信陵君殺晉鄙，救邯鄲，破秦人，存趙國，趙王自郊迎。
且謂信陵君曰：「臣聞之曰，事有不可知者，有不可不知者；有不可忘者，有不可不忘者。」
信陵君曰：「何謂也？」
對曰：「人之憎我也，不可不知也；吾憎人也，不可得而知也。人之有德於我也，不可忘也；吾有德於人也，不可不忘也。今君殺晉鄙，救邯鄲，破秦人，存趙國，此大德也。今趙王自郊迎，卒然見趙王，臣愿君之忘之也。」
信陵君曰：「無忌謹受教。」
Xinling Jun killed Jinbi, rescued Handan, defeated the Qin forces, saved the State of Zhao, and King Zhao personally welcomed him at the outskirts.
Tang Qie said to Xinling Jun, "I have heard it said that there are matters which cannot be known, and matters which must not remain unknown; there are things which should never be forgotten, and things which must not be remembered."
Xinling Jun said, "What do you mean?"
He replied, "When people hate me, that must not remain unknown; when I hate others, it is something that cannot be made known. When people have done me a favor, that must never be forgotten; when I have done someone a favor, it is something one must not fail to forget. Now you killed Jinbi, rescued Handan and defeated the Qin forces to save the State of Zhao—this is a great favor. Now King Zhao has personally come out to greet you at the outskirts, and suddenly you will see King Zhao. I wish you would forget this matter," said he.
Xinling Jun replied, "Wujian respectfully accepts your instruction."
